What a Difference a Couple of Weeks Make

Monday, June 30, 2008

In early June I posted about how I gave it a try and wore a garter belt under my clothes to work. And while the straps can occasionally show through my pants, depending on how I am sitting or standing, I have begun to grow more and more comfortable with whatever risk may be involved with wearing one.

In fact today, despite the fact that I am wearing stay-ups, my garter belt is still surrounding me, beneath my clothes, hooked into the lace tops of my stockings. Once an item that seemed optional, it's begun to become more and more a part of my everyday attire, to the point that something seems to be missing when I don't have it on. I might get caught by someone, I suppose, but maybe that's part of the fun.

I'll probably have to look into buying some more, if I do, you can be sure I will update about it here.

I Must Have You...

Admittedly, I don't own a lot of slips. While they are one of my favorite pieces of lingerie, they can often be tough to wear discreetly. They basically don't work with much of the stuff I wear on a daily basis. Sadly.

But that doesn't stop me from looking. What does stop me, dead in my tracks, is the La Perla Must-Have slip. I know this isn't the first time I've gushed about La Perla, but how can you look at this slip and not thing of it as a thing of beauty? Look closely at the lace detail. Look with envy at the see-through center, as I do.

And it can be yours for a mere $488 by clicking here. If you stop here, feel free to buy an extra one for me. I won't mind. Honestly, I think you should. Think of it as good karma!!

Redemption?

So a few short days after a Leg Avenue rant, what does a logical person like myself do? Throw on another pair of Leg Avenue stockings, of course. I know, they're a stocking for beginners, and you're doomed to be disappointed with much of their product line. But before I knew a lot of this, when I was scooping up a few pairs of inexpensive cuban heel stockings, these were one of them. So since I already had them, and since my garter belt could prevent them from falling down to my calves this time, why not?

These stockings had a cool look. They're nude with contrasting black tops, seams, and heels. These are actually really light for nude, but I like the light look personally, so I was cool with that. The contrast, as you can see in the attached picture, looks pretty hot. I especially like how the cuban heel rises up above my Chuck Taylors, somewhat conspicuously, reminding me of what I'm wearing, and allowing the very attentive a glimpse.

The stockings are a 85/15 blend of polyester. The stockings claim to be retro looking, which is true enough, I guess. They do have just the right amount of shine to them. They definitely don't feel retro (and aren't made to feel so) as they have quite a bit of stretch to them. But for someone who doesn't have the leg shape of the average woman, a little stretch probably isn't a bad thing.

What else is there to say? They're inexpensive at $9, and worth the try, in my opinion. I wish I had the money to buy only nice stockings, but since I started wearing them everyday, I have to pick and choose the days I break out the nice stuff, I guess. For those other days, I can be happy when I end up with a stocking like this. You want to give them a try? You might be happy too.

Maybe Leg Avenue isn't evil after all. Maybe, like the rest of us, they just have their bad days. I guess I have myself a bit of hand washing of hosiery to get to this weekend...

Like a Good Cuban Cigar

My first go at a Cuban heel stocking was a good one. Pictured here are the Isabella Cuban Heel Sheer Backseam Stockings. I have not tried any Isabella products before today, but I'm pretty happy with how these stockings turned out. These are not top of the line stockings, by any means, but they're pretty good for everyday wear, which is what I'm using them for today. For the money, they are certainly worth it, in my opinion.

I am very much enjoying the heel detail on these, and the back seam makes them look and feel very sexy. They're made of a nylon/lycra blend "stretch yarn". While they may have a vintage look, they do not exactly have a vintage feel. But they're going a long way towards washing the bad taste from the Leg Avenue thigh highs of a couple of days ago out of my mouth. After all, it's always nice to end the week on a positive note.

The price is right at $8, and they're available at a wide variety of colors and just about any size you might need, here. It's amazing how the right pair of hose can improve your outlook on any given day. Why not give them a try?

Future Cell Phones

You think your Razr's cool? When it comes to mobile phone design, you ain't seen nothin' yet.

Clamshells and candy bars be gone. Tomorrow's cell phones may bear little resemblance to the snap-open handsets or even the sleek, flat rectangular phones we sport today.

Visionaries from design firm Pilotfish and sensor maker Synaptics have created a phone that has no buttons. It's operated with gestures. Designer Manon Maneenawa has built a phone that can be converted into an alarm clock or a wrist watch. Sweden's GoldVish just began selling a phone for $1.26 million that features diamonds and a secret compartment.
