For Treacle: Magnolia Large Diamond Pattern Stockings

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

To refresh every one's memory, a while back I offered a giveaway with simple guidelines: posters could leave a comment in which they directed me towards a pair of tights or stockings to purchase. I would then provide the poster with a review on my blog. Anyone who posted with a link would automatically be entered in a drawing to win her or his choice of either a Dollhouse Bettie e-certificate or a pair of Wolford tights. I was provided with the links to two very intriguing pairs of tights and one gorgeous pair of stockings. So let the reviews begin!

One of my very favorite bloggers, Treacle of Stocking's Addict directed me towards these Large Diamond Pattern Stockings, made by Magnolia. I've given them their wear and what follows is what I have to say about them.

First of all, they are one of the more lovely pairs of stockings I own. They are made in the vintage style, so they are 100% nylon and 15 denier. Like many of the vintage stockings I own, they come with a reinforced heel and toe, which, while serving a very important purpose, are also very sexy, in my opinion. They also have a "looped toe closure" which means no toe seam which, while uncommon in today's stockings, may have been the norm in the 1960s. Now the 1960s are way before my time, but what could not be common enough, is the hand-stitched diamond pattern that these stockings come in. The pattern itself is large diamonds that are made up of much smaller diamonds. The closer you get to the stocking, the more this intricate pattern shows up. It is truly a stunning stocking to look at and incredibly sexy feeling on the leg...not only because of the vintage stocking feel, but also because of the beautiful way this pattern shows up on the leg. I'm not sure if these pictures give it justice, so you may just have to take my word for it, or better yet, buy your own pair as these are an almost mind-boggling $10.95 right now.

If I had one gripe about these stockings, it would be more on me than on the stockings themselves. They only come in small, medium, and large. Being a bit on the longer-legged side, I suppose, I often need the "tall girl" style stockings when I am buying vintage, which, as opposed to modern stockings, have virtually no stretch to them. But I did not have that option when it came to these, so I simply went with large. Now the large fits me fine and attaches effortlessly to my garter straps with room to spare, but, personally, I always like my stockings to come almost up to the belt themselves, leaving the smallest amount of leg possible for the straps. These barely reach my mid thigh. I'd be thrilled with just a couple more inches in length, but again, I still really really like these.

So again, thanks Treacle, as usual, you are dead on with stockings fashion sense.
