Getting a Leg Up

Friday, October 9, 2009

A little recent poking around Nordstrom made me realize that it's high time I do a leggings post. I have purchased several pairs in the past, but they are all among the basic black kind. Lately, as the temperature has plummeted around here, I'm starting to see newer more interesting styles out. It's made me think its time to pick out a few of my favorites.

Being that I am a huge fan of my Rock Republic jeans, I was instantly drawn to their Valentina Print Leggings. They are your garden variety polyester/spandex leggings, but they're done in a really fun style. Because they're Rock Republic, it should come as no surprise that these are meant to create the impression of skinny jeans.

The printing creates the illusions of Rock Republic's signature back pockets. They're also faded in certain areas to create even more of a jean look. Instead of the blue, however, they've opted for a gray snakeskin design that really is well done. Despite the fact that they're pull on style, they also have the design of a button and zipper as well as front pockets, as they really try to sell the jeans look. I like this style a lot.

They sit on the hips and have a 28 1/2 inch inseam. They're available in sizes xs-l and they should fit sizes 0-10. They cost $125.

Another very interesting style is done by Diane von Furstenberg. Pictured here are the Printed Knit Leggings. You can get this style in either the pictured gray leopard or gala flowered (in gold). They are done in a blend of cotton/viscose and rayon/spandex. Like the Rock Republic, they are pull on and have an elasticised waist.

To some, the print might be a bit much, but I definitely like it. It's a good alternative to the basic black that you see everywhere, yet it is still a basic enough color that it could still work with just about anything the basic black works with.

These are a bit longer than the Rock Republic leggings, since they have a 30 inch inseam. They are available in s-l as well as petite. They cost $115.

Finally, there is the LaROK Rockstar Sequin Leggings. If you want your leggings to get you noticed, these are certainly the ones for you. Here, LaROK takes your basic stretch fit leggings and covers them with literally thousands of sequins. The shine from these leggings is really quite brilliant.

In addition to the sequins, these leggings also have zippers on the side hems and a front zipper closure, which should be helpful, since I imagine these are pretty delicate to put on and take off. There are more zippers as they have two faux zip pockets in the front, and another two in the back. They are lined and are the tallest of the three, with a 31 inch inseam. The leggings are made from polyester.

They are available in sizes extra small through large and should fit sizes 00 through 12. As you may have guessed, they are dry clean only. They cost $348 dollars.

These are more are just some of the great styles currently at Nordstrom. I have a feeling I'll soon be making a return trip there.
