Junior MasterChef... rates like mad. And we feel inadequate.

So, what did you think about the Junior MasterChef debut last night?

Me? I was gobsmacked at not only what those little tikes whipped up, but also just how mature and well spoken they were, and how well they know their way around a kitchen and an international menu.

(I adored how the Sicilian-heritage twins Isabella and Sofia pronounced the tomato-based sauce, "sarsa". Although it was incorrectly captioned, "salsa", which is something entirely different.)

According to http://www.mumbrella.com.au/ Junior Masterchef opening night debut saw an average 2.2 million capital city viewers, according to preliminary overnight TV ratings.

It also hit a peak of 2.61m for Ten, according to figures from OzTam.

The show blitzed Seven’s The X Factor, which rated 1.074m, 11th for the night, and it's the biggest debut of a MasterChef series yet. The first series opened with an average of 1.42m, while the second series premiered with 1.69m.

Junior MasterChef also fared much better than the opening numbers for the first spin-off Celebrity MasterChef, which rated 1.4m in October 2009.

Ten programming boss David Mott said: “We knew there was a big appetite for all things MasterChef. But last night’s brilliant result proves that Australians haven’t had their fill just yet.”
