I will admit to being a Nintendo DS novice. Those Olivia Newton John ads promoting the hottest electronic toy on the planet - and more recently Rebecca Gibney ads - have me wanting to train my brain and get with the programme. Heck, my nieces and nephew have all mastered it.
So, I was chuffed to be invited to the launch of the new DS game Professor Layton and the Lost Future.
With more than 165 new brain-teasing puzzles, riddles and brain teasers to test players mental agility, Professor Layton and the Lost Future is now available for for all Nintendo DS systems right now, and offers newcomers (hello!) and experienced players alike to a mesmerising mix of mystery, time travel and puzzle-solving fun.
Prof Layton has a reputation for fun puzzles woven into the context of a mystery. In this, the third instalment, Luke and the Professor return for their most challenging adventure yet.
Professor Layton and the Lost Future places the Professor and his trusted apprentice, Luke, at the centre of a spellbinding adventure after they receive a strange letter sent from 10 years in the future. Players must wind their way through mind-bending puzzles as they decipher clues and strive to unlock a time-twisting mystery that threatens to plunge London into chaos.
Players must tap to interact with each scene, and the people in it to find and solve new puzzles. Players will need to think laterally to solve the puzzles and each one will bring them closer to unlocking the greater mystery. If you’re a whiz at Brain Training™ or Sudoku you’ll be a natural at assisting Professor Layton.
Brand new features in this third instalment of the series include three new mini-games to practice lateral thinking skills, a new Super Hint feature to boost puzzle solving ability, and deeper revelations about Professor Layton’s own past.
Professor Layton and the Lost Future is playable on Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi and for a bigger screen experience, on the Nintendo DSi XL.
For players that enjoy a challenge, some other titles that are sure to test the brain are Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training™: How Old is Your Brain? and More Brain Training™ from Dr Kawashima: How Old is Your Brain?
