Lady Gaga in Vogue Hommes Japan

Thursday, September 2, 2010

For a woman, Lady Gaga makes a very handsome bloke. Perhaps it's that strong Italian nose that makes the man get-up just work (she was, after all, born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta to Joseph Germanotta, an Italian American, and mother Cynthia Bissett).

Sans stage makeup and crazy costumes, La Gaga is still recognisable here. I love seeing photos of The Gaags in her holy communion dress, or with brunette locks in a school uniform. It kinda makes me think that any old Italian-blooded chick could have become La Matta Gaga (that's "The Crazy Gaga"). But then, there really is only one Gaga.

In the September 2010 issue of Vogue Hommes Japan she poses as Joe Calderone and gives an interview in character. Why, of course.

The photos were shot by Nick Knight and styled by Nicola Formichetti. Here is the interview by Jo-Ann Furniss.

WHERE ARE YOU FROM?
Palermo, Sicily

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO / YOUR OCCUPATION?
Mechanic for my dad's business. This is the first time I've had my picture taken.

WHEN DID YOU DISCOVER YOU WANTED TO DO THIS?
Well, I always helped my dad at work, since I was a kid. I thought it would be fun to have my picture taken.

WHAT ARE YOUR AMBITIONS?
I'd love to own my own car shop, I have a bunch of my own ‘muscle’ cars. Maybe if I take some more pictures I can afford it.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO LADY GAGA?
I met her at a shoot Nick Knight was doing. She's fuckin' beautiful, and funny, and interesting. I was a little nervous for Nick to start shooting. She said, "Don't be baby, you were "born this way." I took her out after. The rest is private ;)
