If you're a bit fashion obsessed, and are especially inspired by young up and comers, this event is for you.
More than 900 Australian secondary students have entered the Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards (AATFA) ahead of the National Final in Sydney on Saturday 2nd October 2010 at Sydney Town Hall - and Josie's Juice blog is giving away tickets to the event, which will feature special guests TV dance sensation Justice Crew.
Now in its 21st year, AATFA provides a unique outlet for students from public and private secondary schools with a world-class forum to present original garments which they have designed and created. Students are competing for prizes in four sections: Casual Wear, Evening Wear, Wearable Art, plus Society and the Environment, plus the overall winner who is crowned Young Designer of the Year.
The judging panel at each State Final will select two finalists from each category to represent their state at the Sydney Town Hall National Final on Saturday 2nd October. Prizes include four Bernina sewing machines valued at more than $3,000 each and a scholarship at Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia in Melbourne.
The AATFA National Final also includes a catwalk show plus two live performances by Australia’s Got Talent winner, dance act Justice Crew.
“The Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards are very, very important for young people who want to follow their dreams,” Justice Crew says. “We believe everyone has a unique talent and the most valuable thing you can do with your life is to let your talent shine.”
The nine-piece dance act’s advice echoes the AATFA mission of “youth potential unleashed”. Last year’s AATFA overall winner and Young Designer of the Year James Penrose will launch his new summer collection while Sydney designer Fiona Buckingham will anchor the judging panel at the event.
Beyond the chance to develop their design and textiles skills, AATFA entrants experience a sense of accomplishment in keeping with the Apex community spirit.
