When it comes to tights, I've spent a lot of time talking about effects and reviewing tights that have effects of some sort. Being garter and stocking effects, as the Trasperenze review a week ago had, or knee high sock effects, or stay up effects which I've review countless amounts of, I've always been intrigued by these types of tights. Much of the time, the tights in question have been Wolford. Wolford designers are constantly updating their wide variety of fashion tights, and they are always good for a few pairs that have some sort of 'effect' design. Not to mention, I'm addicted to Wolford and naturally drawn to just about anything they do.
Enter the Wolford Luna Tights, complete with leggings effect. The leggings effect is a new one for Wolford, but one that makes tons of sense. With leggings and tights being everywhere this season, it was only a matter of time before the two were combined. The effort to do so by Wolford was a good one. I think they've really done a great job here.
These tights were somewhat of a pleasant surprise to me, although that was due, in part, to me not reading the description carefully enough. Looking at the picture, it looks like the tone of the tights just changes around the ankle (from black to 'Sahara'). But not just the color changes, the sheerness changes as well, by quite a margin. The foot of the tights is 20 denier, while the rest is 35 denier. The tights are actually dense enough to feel just like actual leggings. They look a lot like leggings as well. Enough so that these would work perfectly under a short skirt of a long sweater, but not quite enough to stand alone. They're still just a bit too sheer for that, in my opinion.
An added bonus is the lace-like trim at the bottom of the leggings. Above this, is a floral-type design that reaches about as high as the mid-calf. From just about any distance, these will look just like leggings. If your skin tone matches up closely enough to the Sahara (mine did), it will look like leggings over bare legs. This would certainly be something worth doing in a variety of different flesh tones, for Wolford. I hope they do.
The tights are 57% polyester, 35% polyamid, and 8% elastane. They have a completely sheer toe. They're available in sizes extra small through large and should fit leg legnths between 31-46 inches. The tights cost £32.00 ($52). They're not the cheapest tights in the world, but if you take any sort of care of them, they will last a very long time, as Wolford tights stand up to many wears and washes (as long as you hand wash and air dry). The style should allow you to dress them up many different ways allowing for plenty of use. All in all, I would consider them a worthwhile buy.
