Temptation Thursday: Wolford Olivia

Thursday, March 17, 2011

Olivia is the new collection of Wolford. If you're a fan of animal prints (and really, who isn't?), you've got to check this line out. The Olivia is a daring mixture of animal prints and sheer fabrics that I am pretty much dying over right now.

Here is what I'm talking about:

Monday Saving: Wolford on Sale

Monday, March 7, 2011

The change in season is underway and, among the many things that means, Wolford is cutting the prices of last season's leg wear. If you love Wolford like I do, there isn't a better time to stock up on some new tights.

Here are just a few examples:

Monday Saving: Wolford Satin Touch Promotion

Monday, February 7, 2011

If you are a fan of the Wolford Satin Touch 20s, now is definitely the time to purchase them. Right now you can get three pairs for the price of 2.

They don't run this promotion very often, so it's definitely good to take advantage when they do!

Monday Saving: Wolford for Less

Monday, January 24, 2011

If you're a fan of Wolford like I am now is a very good time to stock up. Not only is there some great leg wear on sale, but also plenty of lingerie too.

Here's what I'm thinking:

How Much For a Touch of Satin?

Friday, January 14, 2011

I say a lot of things.

A long time ago, I made the decision in life that, when making a claim (especially in an argument) go all out and defend it to the death. It doesn't matter at all if I'm right or wrong, as long as I believe what I'm saying. I try to steer away from the middle ground and keep things black or white. I love giving my opinion and I love hearing others' opinions and I prefer when that of others' flies in the face of mine. I have one friend, in particular, that I routinely drive insane with this. When we argue, which is usually whenever we talk, he'll try to present me with as much information as possible to sway my opinion. Typically, and sometimes on purpose, I refuse to change my opinion...and it drives him nuts. For some reason this amuses me. I guess you could call me stubborn, although I never look at myself that way.

Why am I saying all of this? I guess because I'm not sure it translates into my writing ("I guess"..."not sure"...see what I'm saying?). I've begun to wonder, for whatever reason, if my writing is too...gray.

I long ago tabbed Wolford as the gold standard for leg wear (black and white enough, I'm sure). As such, Wolford is always in the back of my mind when it comes to any other leg wear, even if its other premium brands like Falke or Fogal, but especially if it is less expensive brands. It comes out in my reviews, I've noticed. Many times I'll look at or try a inexpensive pair of tights and thoughts such as 'Wolford-like' or 'less expensive version of Wolford's x,y, or z' enter my head. Yet, at the same time, I'll swear to anyone who asks that Wolford is worth every penny due to things like quality, durability, length of life, etc. So which is it? Maybe its time to take a stand.

This happened sort of by accident. This morning, just because they were recently washed, dried and, therefore, readily available on the drying rack, I grabbed the Wolford Satin Touch 20 tights. Upon putting them on, it instantly reminded me of the Kunert Satin Look 20 Denier tights (practically the same name even). Before you think that a) I think waaaay too much about tights (which is true) or b) I have some sort of really strange tights-only photographic memory (which isn't true), remember that I just reviewed these on Tuesday and was particularly happy with them, so they were fresh in my mind. At any rate, I checked the tag just to make sure the ones I grabbed were the Wolford's (they were).

So let's go to the Tale of the Tape:

As stated in their names, they're both 20 denier and have a satin (somewhat shiny) finish. The Wolford Tights, which I reviewed as well, a little over a year back, are made from 85% nylon and 14% elastane. The Kunert Tights are 84% nylon and 16% elastane. In other words, slight more stretch to the Kunert with a heavy, heavy stress on the 'slight'.

So they do indeed look identical and they should feel pretty damn close to identical, unless you have one leg in each, maybe...

The Wolford's have a flat-knit waistband, and almost invisible reinforced toe, and a cotton gusset. The Kunert's do as well. The Kunert's come in 6 different sizes...the Wolford's 5. The Wolford's come in 14 different colors (chutney, anyone?) the Kunert's 5. The Wolford's are sheer throughout, the Kunert's have a high leg panty (no extra control, however). The only other difference, is that the Kunert's have a touch of Aloe Vera, which could be a good or a bad thing (hello, Cafe Fashionista).

So...what's the difference in price? The Wolford's retail for £16.00 while the Kunert's are only £9.13. In USD, that's a difference of $10.84...not bad savings when you're talking about tights in the $15-25 range. You might even buy and extra pair or Kunert's for not much more than the one pair of Wolford (or at least that's what I'd do).

So, yeah, I guess it's fair to say that the Kunert's could be compared to the...(wait, wait...black and white...remember?). Save yourself some money...buy the Kunert Satin Look 20. You wont be sorry.

Feel free (I mean, please) disagree with me (I'm begging you).

Temptation Thursday: Brand New Wolford

Thursday, January 6, 2011

Would I be exaggerating if I said this was my favorite time of the year? I think not.

I'm always exciting when its time to see what's new at Wolford. Their designs are always fresh and interesting and, often times, will give a good indication of what is about to become the hot new trends for legwear designers worldwide.

When you're a Tights Lover, what can be better than that?

All I Want For Xmas: Wolford

Friday, December 24, 2010

Is it really Christmas Eve today? For a holiday that somehow manages to sneak up on me every year, Christmas somehow managed to sneak up on me even more so this year. Am I going to be running around a mall frantically sometime today? You bet I am. ...who am I kidding? I'm heading downstairs to Rite Aid. Gift cards for everybody (again) this year!! What am I thankful for this time of year? Amex, my friends...Amex.

You know what my problem is. I attempt to shop for others...I really do. Inevitably I end up shopping for myself instead. What's left to talk about on my Xmas list? You know Wolford is there. There is always Wolford...

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. I'm hoping you all get everything on your list and more. If I survive, I'll see you on Monday.

Temptation Thursday: Winter Wolfords

Thursday, September 23, 2010

Okay, I swear it's going to cool off at some point. Or at least I think it's going to cool off at some point. But while the 80+ weather continues to roll into New England, there's no ignoring the fact that it is the first day of Autumn today. Pretty soon we'll have to worry about staying warm.

Wolford is certainly already thinking about warmth, with two great option for the upcoming season. Both are available in a huge variety of colors, so you can work them into any look.

Shiny New Wolford

Monday, July 12, 2010

As if Wolford needed to make anything to intensify my crush on them, they have just released their satin collection. I am a complete sucker for anything satin. I see it...and I must have it. Of course, the same could be said about anything Wolford. I'm a slave to my addictions.

But now the two have been combined. Wolford, already home to a very underrated lingerie line, have improved upon an already good thing. Not known for lingerie with a lot of bells and whistles, Wolford is still very good at what they do, and that is make outstanding every day basics. But until now, satin, my absolute favorite, had remained elusive.

Not anymore. As usual, this line features all of the basics: a push up bra (pictured), a full cup bra, a full brief (pictured), a tanga, and a string. The color is a bright rose and the material looks so soft in the picture, I can almost feel it through my computer screen.

...almost. Gotta make a trip down to Wolford today, I think, to really get a feel for these.

New Wolford Legwear

Thursday, July 1, 2010

While they haven't unveiled their full fall line yet, my #1 hosiery crush, Wolford, has begun to let some new leg wear styles trickle in. As if you even needed me to say so...I like what I see. Three new pairs of tights and some new leggings have just gone up for sale. Indeed, I love them all:

Review: Wolford Luxe 9

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Over the last several years, I've reviewed a ton of Wolford tights. Many of them have been of the seasonal variety and included textures or patterns. Not to be overlooked, however, are the generous collection of basics, that Wolford keeps in their store year-round. These tights leave out all of the bells and whistles, but can often still deliver the same quality and feel of the fancier (and more expensive) Wolford tights.

Among the collection of basics, is the Luxe 9 tights. As the name suggests, these tights are super-sheer at just 9 denier. Wolford advertises them as "makeup for your skin" as they can be useful when you want to go with a much more natural look. They're also very light and airy making them great for when you need to wear tights in the summer. In addition, they are as soft, luxurious, and comfortable feeling as any of Wolford's more expensive fashion tights.

At just $30, they are more affordable than much of Wolford's product line. They also come in 5 different sizes. If you're looking for the natural look, and want to match your skin tone as closely as possible, these are the tights for you as they come in 11 different tones. They're made from 90% nylon, 8% elastane, and 2% cotton. They're a bit more delicate than most Wolford tights, so you do need to exercise a bit more care when putting them on and wearing them. But if you're reasonably careful, they should last for many wears, which is key for tights that are so useful.

New Wolford Leggings

Friday, May 7, 2010

I continue to sit here, patiently waiting for some new styles of tights from Wolford. So far, nothing new on that front, but they have managed to curb my appetite a bit by releasing some new styles of leggings and capri leggings.

In all, there are a four new styles, and they cover a pretty wide range. I'll just take 'em all, please.

Good Point, Wolford

Thursday, April 29, 2010

The latest from Wolford is the Arrow Stay Ups. They are gorgeous fine knit ajoure stay ups done in a zig zag hole pattern that creates an arrow-like image. The purpose of this pattern is to elongate the legs. All I can tell you from checking out the photos, is that they make the legs look gorgeous. The pattern is certainly a real eye-catcher that can cause the onlooker to continue to check out the pattern up and down the legnth of the leg.

The stay ups are 90% polyamide and 10% elastane. They are smooth knit in the toe area for greater comfort. It also has a smooth 4cm stay up band. They're available in black and china white and are also available as tights or knee highs.

All I can say is that I own a few different pairs of ajoure tights from Wolford, and few things in the leg wear market are softer or more comfortable. Adding in a gorgeous pattern like this is simply a bonus.

Warming Up to Wolford

Thursday, April 15, 2010

Wow. Has it really been a month since I've gushed about Wolford? That has to be some sort of personal record. I typically blather on about some Wolford-related topic about every week or so. What has become of me???

Time for my Wolford-fix, I think...

So with the warm weather approaching, despite all the good things that includes, it is typically time to put much of the leg wear away for a few months. If you're like me though, that can be an option you don't really wanna consider. So here are some other great options thanks, to Wolford. These are all ultra-light, single-digit-denier, hosiery that is sheer enough that you can comfortably wear them throughout the summer months:

Naked 8 Stay Ups

Luxe 9 Tights

Individual 5 Tights

Aura 5 Tights

Stay cool, my friends...
