Panty Monday: The Drawer Hits a Milestone

Monday, March 14, 2011

I have a couple of exciting things to report today. The first is a change I decided to make comes with a big assist from everyone who's been voting in my polls in the sidebar. According to two different polls, 44% of you would like to see me talk about panties more (I know. Makes sense, given the name of my blog and all) and only 4% of you liked 'Money Saving Mondays' the best. I'm with you. I like the idea of that weekly post at first, but I got bored of it. Enter: 'Panty Monday'. Can't wait to see the first post. Oh wait...I'm typing it right now.

The second thing is on a much more selfish note...but I'm equally excited about it. Today is my 500 post. This blog looks a lot different from when I started it almost 3 years ago, but I've enjoyed every day of it. Hopefully you'll all still visiting here when I get to 1,000.

Anyway...in an effort to return somewhat to my roots, I'll kick this new weekly segment off with something I used to talk about endlessly...vintage panties. They're still my favorite for all the lace, nylon, detail, and coverage. Really, what's not to like. Nobody does them better than Dollhouse Bettie...still my favorite for vintage lingerie in general.

Brief Moment of Sheer Joy

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

A few weeks back I decided that I was going to buy and review a brief style panty. I picked out three different styles. Two of the styles were a transparent meshy tulle type, while the third was a satin brief with lacy detail. Of the two tulle briefs, one was plain black while the other was a lilac color with lots of detail.

I threw the three options out on the blog and let the commenters decide which was best. Overwhelmingly, commenters seemed to prefer the Miss Showgirl High Waisted Brief, by Playful Promises. The recurring sentiment seemed to be a genuine like for the high waisted style. That was great news for me, because I too have always been a big fan.

As pretty as this panty looks on the La Magia website, it is just as much so in person. In fact, the detail stands out even more. My first observation was how soft the brief was. Tulle can go one of two ways, as far as I'm concerned. If it is of good quality, it is soft and somewhat stretchy and conforms to the wearer. If it is of poorer quality, it is stiffer and scratchier, sitting uncomfortably and looking unflattering. Fortunately this brief is very much the former. The tulle feels so soft if you run it through your fingers. When wearing this brief, it feels extremely soft and comfortable. One of the problems with high waisted briefs is that they can sit uncomfortably and constrict the wearer. These are the exact opposite, you may even forget that you are wearing anything at all underneath.

This brief also is gorgeously designed. It has plenty of little details, such as four columns of lace running down the front of the brief, two ending in bright pink buttons in miniature keyhole detail. The back of the panty is free of detail and gorgeously sheer. The details add to the brief but the main feature is just the amount of coverage and the fact that it is done in pretty lilac tulle. This brief is the perfect balance between sexiness (the transparent style leaves very little to the imagination) and class (the high waisted style lends itself to classic vintage time, where this type of style was more commonplace). This brief is a must for an occasion that calls for a little something more than everyday attire.

The brief comes in small, medium, and large. It has enough stretch to fit comfortably but also, as stated above, conforms to the wearers body shape. It is available in this lilac color only, which is just fine, it only adds to the overall prettiness and femininity of this piece. Finally, it cost £13 (about $21). You could easily spend a lot more for a lot less. I think this is an excellent buy.

Thanks to all who commented on the original post! I was so happy to hear that I was not alone in my appreciation for this style of panty.

All Frills

Vintage. Sexy. Girlie.

Nobody can combine the three adjectives above in quite the way that Dollhouse Bettie does. In short, I want to buy everything on their website. Of the purchases from them that I have made, I am madly in love with them all. I look forward to their lingerie updates the way some people look forward to the next episode of their favorite television show or a new record from their favorite band.

Among the latest updates, Dollhouse, is making a serious effort towards going vintage. Not just in a re-creation sort of way, mind you, but authentic in every sense. Case in point is the 50s Vintage Frilly Nylon Chiffon Panties. Now the name probably says it all, but hey, the picture certainly doesn't hurt.

In addition to the 100% nylon, there is lace detail that circles each hip bone and continues into a circle of frill in the middle. There is also a flower in the center of each hip bone circle. The leg openings are also very frilly and the panty is semi-sheer. These panties are gorgeous.

They're apparently only available in size 5 and cost $129. They come in only mint color. Personally, I can sometimes be a 5 but am usually a 6, so I'm not comfortable shelling out $129 for something that may not fit great. But they sure are nice to look at. Hopefully they do find themselves a good home.
