Guest Blogger: Treacle of The Lingerie Addict

Friday, October 1, 2010

Treacle is a 20-something knickers junkie who started writing because her friends threatened to tape her mouth shut if she didn't stop talking about her underwear. She welcomes lingerie lovers of every nation and persuasion to her blog, The Lingerie Addict.

Even though Fashion Week for Spring/Summer 2011 ended just a few days ago, those of us not in the magazine publishing industry still have to make it through the next few months of winter. And if the almanacs are any indication, this one promises to be a doozy. Fortunately, hosiery is back in a big way this season so you can be warm and fashionable at the same time. Let's take a look at a few of the most popular trends, along with the stores where you can buy them.

Basic Black Tights

Basic black tights are a look that never goes out of style. Appearing on runways as diverse as Missoni, Oscar de la Renta, and Badgley Mischka (pictured left to right above), black tights are a go-to staple for every fall and winter season. They're also available at a range of price points for every budget. Try the Aristoc Shiny Opaque Tights for only $10.95 or treat yourself to the slightly more expensive Falke Matte Sheer Tights for $26.00. Both are available from MyTights.

Brightly Colored Tights

But maybe black tights aren't your thing. After all, with so many gray and dreary days ahead, couldn't we all use a "pop" of color? Studies show that brighter colors can help people feel cheerier, happier, and more balanced...and if just looking at them has so many positive side effects, think of all the benefits wearing bright colors must give you! 3.1 Phillip Lim, Zac Posen, and Jean Paul Gaultier (shown above, left to right) all agree--colors are where it's at. Find similar looks at We Love Colors and Stockingirl.

Patterned Tights

Fishnets may be the most popular pattern around (and they certainly make a comeback this season), but designers made a point to show that they weren't the only pattern around. Fabulous, fun, and funky...patterned tights are a great way to spark and personality to even the simplest outfits. Visit Bebaroque for embellished tights in the style of Anna Sui (far left), Figleaves for the House of Holland by Pretty Polly Collection (center), and Bare Necessities for classic, Wolford fishnets like those seen on Betsey Johnson's runway (far right).

Socks

Whether dainty and delicate or chunky and bold, socks were all over the runways this season. I love socks because they serve as a great transition between Fall and Winter, letting you wear your pretty summer dresses and shoes for just a little while longer. For this look, I recommend ASOS and Sock Dreams. Both are right on trend with socks in every color, length, fabric, and price point. (Shown above, left to right: DKNY, Marc Jacobs, and Prada.)

Bonus Round: Wet Look Thigh High Leggings

I only saw this look on one runway, Vera Wang, but I loved it so much I had to include it here. Even better, I know someone who can replicate this look. If you're digging the grungy, gothy, rockstar vibe of thigh high leggings, I highly recommend checking out these from Black Milk Clothing. At only $40, it's a small price to pay for being on the very cutting edge of fashion.

I hope you enjoyed this article about how to take runway trends and interpret them in real life. If you did, please feel free to give me a shout-out on Twitter or Facebook. I'd love to hear from you!

Guest Blogger: Charles of First Response

Friday, September 24, 2010

Hi all. I'm very excited about today's post. If you aren't familiar with First Response, I definitely encourage you to go check it out. Charles is both fashionable and fun. Her blog includes not only a ton of outfit posts, but also plenty of other posts, both from the world of fashion, or whatever else might be on her mind. Today, though, Charles is going to give us an inside look into her leg wear collection, with some awesome photos, as well as an up-close look at her own leg wear styling philosophy. Enjoy!

Hello everyone! I'm Charles and I'm hear to tell you just a little bit about my own drawer-ful of stockings, tights, & leggings. When I was a little girl, I had these red tights and they matched my red earmuff. I wore them together all the time in the fall and winter. Now, I don't match all the time. Pattern mixing is so much fun and breaking up and ordinarily simple outfit by adding some funky tights can be chic ans stylish for any age. I've included a few of my personal favorite pairs from my collection in some of these photos. Last year was the first time I ever double layered tights! I did it with my much loved blue tights by HUE and pulled a pair of purple floral fishnets from UO over them for a funky look. By wearing them with some colorful accessories in a mostly-black outfit, I got a really cool new look.

There seems somewhat a divide of stockings fans vs. tights fans but I can honestly say I love both! They are both fabulous for different reasons. Tights can be guaranteed to give me that warmth and comfort when it's cold out and stockings are better for me when I want to feel a bit 50's pinup girl and take the garter belt out of storage. And the best thing is that nobody can tell you're wearing them (unless it's windy or you don't cross your legs proper). It just feels a little dangerous and fun once in a while. Plus with stockings, I don't have to worry about stretched out waistbands or pilling as I sometimes get with tights. When it comes to thigh high stockings, my two favorites are the ones with the back seams and my lace up back ones. They are kind of naughty so I make sure to wear them with classy outfits and not-so-high heels.

I even love leggings! Leggings are great when you just don't want to have to worry about runs. Also, I love wearing them with boots because I can wear thicker socks in the wintertime. I don't having many leggings. Just one simply gray/black pair with holes on one side leg and a pair that has zips at the bottom. I just bought the latter pair at DSW on sale, I think they would great with an oversize denim shirt, short skirt, and booties.

Fashion is just so much fun. I felt like I really wanted to share some of my own personal trials in tights, stockings, and leggings wear!

Socks are also really big this season. I love a good knee sock and rolled down ankle sock, I always have. The thing I'm against though is socks with too much open sandal. I refuse to see the style in it. I won't judge you if you love this style, but personally I just really don't like this look. I think the thing with trends is that you really have to choose which ones to avoid and follow, they are different for everyone. Sometimes it's fun to step out of your comfort zone but other times it's better to make up your own trends.

Don't forget to have fun!

Feel free to ask any questions.
xx

Guest Blogger: Adela of Guilty Pleasures

Friday, September 17, 2010

Today's guest blogger is Adela. Adela is from Guilty Pleasures which is pretty much an all-everything website, when it comes to lingerie. Since Adela agreed to do a guest post, I've been dropping by Guilty Pleasures quite often, and I can say that my jaw has hit my desk just about every time. Some of the brands and styles featured there are amazing. In addition, they also provide you with reviews, help guides, and just about anything else you can imagine. I do hope you get a chance to stop by and see it for yourself.

Top 5 Wolford's Looks for Less

Although Wolford's always going to be my fetish stockings brand and unless I get rich overnight, splurging on one of their luxurious pair of stockings is going to remain a Christmas tradition I've been keeping in the last 3 years, there's a way to solve the gorgeous looking tights addiction without spending a small fortune on every pair.

They may not be high end labels, but here goes top 5 Wolford's looks for less.

1. The sexy stay ups

The $98 valued Wolford souvenir stay ups can be replaced by either these $8 Sock Dreams bow lace stockings or the Jonathan Aston version available at MyTights.

2. The shady knee highs

When you can't afford paying $32 for an elegant pair of knee highs, Sock Dreams saves the day again with their $10 amazingly sleek B.ella trouser socks.

3. The trendy tights

Twisting trends to fit your unique personality while staying sexy is not easy. With a bit of luck, I found the seamless warning net pantyhose by Leg Avenue to be a great replacement to the more expensive Wolfords.

4. The leopard print stay ups

Every print addict would love these. The StockinGirl version costs less than half and brings the jungle beats back in the same sexy stay up style.

5. The sheer patterned nylons

Wolford's version is very attractive, but the look for less patterned tights come with a beautiful and subtle texture that is as eye catching and look and feel great when worn.

This is my top 5 and I would love to hear from you about other great stocking bargains and tips on where to find great items for less.

Guest Blogger: Taryn of Style Phenomenon

Friday, September 3, 2010

Today's post is the first of hopefully many guest posts on The Panty Drawer. It comes from Taryn of one of my very favorite blogs: Style Phenomenon. Compared to blogs like Style Phenomenon, I consider maintenance of my blog relatively easy. I'm free to scour the web for pieces of lingerie or hosiery that catch my eye without the task of putting complete looks together. Few, if any, bloggers are as skilled at putting looks together as Taryn. As if that weren't enough, I think Taryn is as big a fan of vintage looks as I am. Okay, I'm done talking...I'm going to sit back now and let Taryn do her thing.

Hello everyone, this is Taryn from Style Phenomenon. I am extremely excited to be doing a guest post for The Panty Drawer! This blog has been one of my favorite sources for the finest and most fabulous tights on the market for quite some time. With Fall just around the corner, I thought it would be great to put together a few outfits that features some of the outstanding tights and legwear us Panty Drawer readers have come to expect and covet.

Fur, fierce accessories, and faux thigh highs. This has to be one of my favorite looks, full of pieces I hope to soon add to my wardrobe.

tights 2

At first glance these Wolford leopard print tights might seem a little wild, but a jewel tone dress keeps things elegant yet interesting.

Both the color camel and military inspired pieces are HUGE right now, what better than to combine two such trends and a cozy pair of berry colored tights.

Diane von furstenberg knitwear CAMEL, 264 GBP - Tibi Leather shorts, $585 - Like a Fine Wine Tights, $22 - Sam Edelman Women's Falken Clog: Shoes, $190 - Lanvin Mini Pop leopard-print bag, $1,555 - michael kors watch, $315 - Silk Cashmere Infinity Scarf, $198 - 3.1 Phillip Lim Vera pleated leather gloves, $250 - Ray-Ban 8041 Aviator Titanium Shiny Gold Polarised > Ray-Ban..., 184 GBP - PEARL&IVY MEDIUM MULTI COLOUR HAIR BAND BLUE/PURPLE MULTI FEATHERS -, 40 GBP - Chanel Le Vernis Nail Color Colour Polish Diabolic No. 427, $25

Last but not least, I felt the need to include a girly ensemble. Thing high socks seems flirty without crossing the line to lingerie and its hard to resist bows, pearls, and a PS1.

In the past I've allowed myself to be intimidated by a particularly bright or printed pair of tights but the best advice, as for all outfits, is to create balance. This fall give your classic black pair a rest and test run some other dark colors such as navy, berry, or dark green. This year's neutral based palette favors these tones and is a cheaper way to completely transform your look. Have fun with it!

Many thanks again for letting me do this post, it was a blast to put together!
